FreeCVWriter ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our resume builder service. Please read this privacy policy carefully.

2.1 Resume Content

Important: FreeCVWriter does NOT store your resume content. What you enter in the builder (name, email, phone number, work experience, education, skills, etc.) is saved locally in your browser. Content leaves your browser only when you ask for something to be produced from it: when you download a PDF, it is sent to our server to render the file; when you use an AI tool (ATS score, summary writer, cover letter generator, resume to JSON), what you submit is sent to our server and to Google's Gemini API to generate the result. In both cases the result is returned to you and the content is not retained by us. We do not otherwise have access to your resume data unless you share it with us through feedback forms or other communication channels.

2.2 Information You Voluntarily Provide

We only collect information that you voluntarily provide to us, such as:

  • Feedback and communications you send to us through our feedback form
  • Information you provide when reporting issues or contacting support

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

When you use our Service, we may automatically collect certain information, including:

  • Device information (IP address, browser type, operating system)
  • Usage data (pages visited, time spent, features used)
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies

3. How We Use Your Information

Since we do not collect your resume content, we use the minimal information we do collect only to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our Service
  • Respond to your feedback, inquiries, and provide customer support
  • Analyze general usage patterns (anonymized) to improve user experience
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues and security threats

Your resume content is used only to produce what you ask for — a PDF, a score, a summary or a letter — and is not stored or used for any other purpose.

4. Data Storage and Security

Local Browser Storage: Your resume data is stored entirely in your browser's local storage. This means:

  • Drafts stay on your device; content is sent to our server only when you download a PDF or use an AI tool, and only to produce that result
  • We do not store your resume data on our servers
  • Content sent to an AI tool is processed by Google's Gemini API; uploaded PDFs are deleted from Google after they are read, or automatically within 48 hours if a request fails
  • You have full control over your data - you can clear it anytime by clearing your browser's local storage

No Account Required: Since FreeCVWriter is completely free and does not require registration, there are no user accounts or passwords to manage. Your data is stored locally and is associated only with your browser.

Data Security: While we implement security measures for our website, your resume data's security primarily depends on your browser's local storage security. You can enhance security by using a secure browser and keeping your device protected.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We may share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as hosting, analytics, and customer support.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

  • Export: You can download your resume as a PDF at any time - this is the only time your data leaves your device
  • Delete: You can clear all your resume data by clearing your browser's local storage
  • No Account Management: Since there are no accounts, you don't need to manage passwords or account settings

9. Children's Privacy

Our Service is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. Data Retention

Since your resume data is stored locally in your browser, data retention is entirely under your control:

  • Your resume data persists in your browser's local storage until you clear it
  • We do not retain any of your resume content on our servers
  • If you clear your browser's local storage or use a different browser/device, your data will not be available there
  • You can delete your data at any time by clearing your browser's local storage

For feedback or communications you send to us, we retain only the information necessary to respond to your inquiry.

11. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and maintained on computers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where data protection laws may differ. By using our Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to these facilities.
